Joya for diabetes - causes, symptoms and remedies

What is diabetes?

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease, characterized by a permanently elevated blood glucose level. Two forms are distinguished: Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes usually begins before the age of 20. The cause is an autoimmune disease, in which the immune system attacks its own body. In the process, the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas are destroyed.

The much more common form, type 2 diabetes, usually occurs after the age of 30 and is therefore often referred to as adult-onset diabetes. Causes here include mostly hereditary factors, obesity or lack of exercise, insulin resistance or impaired secretion of insulin.

The most common symptoms:

  • Itching
  • Constant feeling of hunger
  • Weight changes
  • Depressive mood
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Poorly healing wounds

Diabetes secondary diseases

Late effects of diabetes can affect almost every part of the body. Even slightly elevated blood glucose levels can lead to dangerous changes in the body's small and large blood vessels and cause nerve damage. However, with good control of blood sugar, lipid metabolism, blood pressure and avoidance of nicotine, secondary diseases can be avoided or even delayed.

The most frequent secondary diseases include:

  • Decrease of eyesight
  • Cerebral stroke or heart attack
  • Kidney disease
  • Impotence
  • Circulatory disorders of the nerves
  • Diabetic foot

Tips in everyday life

  • Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and prefer low-fat foods. Also make sure meat and sausage are as low in fat as possible.
  • Drink healthy, low-calorie beverages. Instead of sodas or alcohol, try sparkling/still water or unsweetened tea.
  • Avoid high-calorie snacks, sweets and fast food.
  • Use little fat when cooking. Steaming, stewing and foil cooking are better than frying. Use olive or canola oil.
  • Exercise daily, even just 30 minutes of walking will do you good.
  • Use a bicycle or walk for shorter distances or short errands - keep moving.
  • Exercise, choosing a sport with light to moderate intensity, such as swimming or cycling.
  • Wear Joya shoes, these support your muscle activity when walking and standing and prevent pain.
